But had this to say to VideoGamer.com:

Quote:
Q: Ex-Team Ninja boss Tomonobu Itagaki left the company in 2008. How has his departure impacted upon the Dead or Alive series and the direction it's going in?

YU: The team as a whole, we understand that Mr. Itagaki made the Dead or Alive brand. But the staff here knows the game and knows the tradition, and wants to keep the tradition and the quality that has been established. But at the same time, we're looking from a game design aspect at things, and trying to listen more to users, and make things a little more user friendly. We want to listen to our fans, listen to our users a little more. Keep the good of what's been established, but reach out to more users, and make games that even more people can enjoy.

Q: There are many fans who are anxious to hear word on Dead or Alive 5. Do you plan to make Dead or Alive 5 more user-friendly?

YU: We can't really talk about anything right now. We've been concentrating on DOA Paradise.

What is there to concentrate on in Paradise? It's just a port without volleyball lol. I hate when a company is all sneaky. . . like a team of. . . ninjas.

Making the DOA series more user friendly than it already is ?
Dunno about that.
I like the "listen to the fans more" part though.

More user-friendly sounds terrible. DOA is already the most user-friendly fighting game still around, and the user-friendly changes made to Tekken and SF are the worst parts of both games.

I still expect an announcement at E3.

SC5 vs DOA5 vs KI3/XBLA - E3 announcements

That would be an E3 to remember.

I believe you've been saying that for two years, for each year's E3.

I'm alittle worried. I'm hoping to see the return of the loads of costumes, fan-service and such. But "more user-friendly"? What more user-friendly does DOA need to be? Its the easiest fighter to pick up and play. Maybe they're going to bring back the analog controls from DOA3 or make the ability for one button counters for n00bs from DOA1. x_x

User friendly does not necessarily mean what people fear. A good kind of user friendly is "easy to understand", which DOA has a strength in.

I don't think it's likely to mean simplified as in dumbed down. They state they want to build on the good things in the game, so the fighting system depth is something that should be retained. They know they have a good fighting system to work with.

User friendly could be a stronger story and training mode. Controls and amount of moves are already good and accessible, in that respect I'm sure they know they know what they have to build on.

The emphasis on user feedback is interesting. Perhaps this is a good time for those people that have contacts with Tecmo to ask how we can provide feedback?

^^

What Berzerk said.

Those of you in the know, please inform the rest of us when Tecmo decides to start paying attention to DOAC again.

If Capcom can start listening to its fanbase then anythings possible . . . as long as reaching out to more users doesn't mean turning DOA into Smash Bros.

No offense to fans of that series but you know what I mean.

DOA needs to be more user friendly, it's not as simple or as straight forward as most other fighters. In fact the entire guessing system is extremely convoluted. Simplicity doesn't mean dumbing down, you can't really dumb down the dumbest anyways. It means they make it a bit more streamlined.

Sarcasm detector is broken.

What is there to streamline? Holds are single input motions, there is only one throw escape input.

Unless user friendly is spin for taking out virtual lobbies. Or maybe they could do 1 button counters taking care virtually everything. Strings are too complex, maybe they could do Smash Bros.

Wait, I actually wouldn't mind a Tecmo Brawl. Rio, Deception 2 lead, Deception 3 traitor, Mio, FF2 female villain.

The learning curve. It's too steep and rewards next to nothing once learned.

That somebody was BlackberryChaos, and he sent a MTAF on XBL claiming the source was from Gametrailers. Yet something didn't seem right when he didn't post a direct link to copy ourselves. Either way, I never found it.

Even if he did lie, I won't hold that against him. He probably had an ulterior motive behind it, such as getting people to play DOA again or something. . . I dunno.

It wasn't a lie. Sector isn't on my FL so someone else must have told him, and I got mail back saying that people say the same thing, so yeah . . .

Just wait.

User-friendly is never a good thing when it comes to fighting games. Most high-level players don't like Ultra Combos or shortcut notations in SF4 and those were the user-friendly additions Ono made. The same goes for Rage in Tekken 6.

Sorwah: It's not my fault everything went to hell at Team Ninja. If Itagaki had never left and the merger with Koei never happened, we would've already had a DOA5.
